I am a "Cowboy/Western Action Shooter" living in Medicine Hat, Alberta, in Western Canada (with a liking for Piano Ragtime, as you might guess from the music selections available for your listening pleasure while you are visiting my humble establishment.)
In the course of editing Western Action Shooting newsletters, designing suitable posters, and so on, I have noticed that appealing period-looking "Old West" images and fonts can be rather hard to locate.
As a result, I have collected quite a bit of the sort of art and fonts that I personally feel are most appropriate to the 'period feeling' I am usually striving for - the clip art is primarily original black and white engravings, line drawings and some grayscale pictures from various sources, including quite a bit of the work of C.M. Russell and Frederic Remington. In addition to "looking right", these kinds of images use much less computer memory than colour graphics, and reproduce most effectively and economically when photocopying or printing the projects they are used in.
I have decided to make some of these images and fonts available on this Web Site, and I hope you will find it useful. (I have included images of quite a few everyday things which are "period" but not strictly "western" - tools, utensils, furniture and so on - because you may wish to use them to illustrate scenario descriptions, and such.) I believe that all of the images here are copyright-free, most of them being quite old, and the fonts are all freeware or shareware downloaded from elsewhere on the internet. I would ask that you let me know if I am mistaken in that regard on any image or font.
I'm also including a few pages to introduce myself (at least my Western Action Shooting Alias character) and to tell you a bit about Canada's big "Wild West" event - the North -West Rebellion of 1885 - and about the Rocky Mountain Rangers - a volunteer cowboy militia cavalry unit, with which the Original Rattlesnake Jack served as a Scout. (The 1885 Rocky Mountain Rangers had no connection with the present-day infantry unit of the same name located in Kamloops, B.C.)
[NOTE: An excellent reference regarding the Rocky Mountain Rangers, from which I have obtained much of my data on the Unit and the original Rattlesnake Jack, and also quite a few of my illustrations, is "THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN RANGERS, Southern Alberta's Cowboy Cavalry in the North West Rebellion - 1885" by Gordon E. Tolton: 1994; Occasional Paper No.28: Lethbridge Historical Society; ISBN 0-9696100-4-1]
I would appreciate any comments or suggestions you may wish to make regarding this Web Page.
If you have any "old west" images which you are willing to make available in my ClipArt Parlour, please send them or contact me about them.
